Paddling around a lily-pad-filled lake looking for hippopotamuses. Unfortunately, they were all hiding, but our oarsman made me this beautiful flower crown and necklace and made me feel like a lake princess.

Hiking through the Pics du Sindou, a range of jagged peaks that spreads from the west of Burkina Faso all the way through Mali.


Showering under some waterfalls.


Palm trees, rice fields and sugarcane, often all in the same place at once.


Hilarious and friendly guides, who took me everywhere I wanted to go and only asked that I pay them what I could. We had a blast.
